Major League Soccer's Best Push is to be Part of the Premier League

...Much like American teams coming into Canada's National Hockey League.

When centuries pass us by, the thought is that world sports competition will be part of the year round function.  Presumably transportation and logistics will shrink the world even more.

The North American Soccer League and MLS seem to be in competition, ...or enhancing each other.  NASL landed Miami as an expansion

Soccer's weekly venue could culminate into an every other week shift over the pond.

Much of my blog is themed with the flavor of more than one place for a "home" team.  And if not in a few places, at least for more places in name.  Not just like Texas Rangers, Florida Marlins, California Angels or Tennessee Titans.  But more like New England Patriots and Golden State Warriors.  Could the Warriors camp during the regular season in San Diego and the Angels in Sacramento?  What do you think?

Would West Coast play in Honolulu and Anchorage also?  I wish the West Coast Athletics or Clippers would.

NFL Business in San Diego & Los Angeles. And the world

A hundred miles apart with a thick population in between, SD and LA governments are playing into the business of the NFL, a humongous non-profit ( a church, if you will).

Named "North Country". A Big League Brand

Picture this travel team tagging throughout NHL cities of the north.  My argument
has been for a broader, more inclusive geographical expansion for any next big league expansion.
Two or more cities for one team.  Think "North Country Expos" having played in Vancouver also, instead of vacating Canada.

At the top of my list has been a "West Coast" brand with absences in the big five including San Diego, stretching from Anchorage to Honolulu, Sacramento, Seattle, Las Vegas and Portland.  Think West Coast A's or Raiders.  I've also thought of the dismal Rays and how it would be improved as the Tampa-Monterrey (Mexico) Rays.  A Great Lakes or North Shore/North Coast NHL team would be neato.

North Country Rowmans [Romans]  (pictured is Vikings and their row crafts)

If the NBA Grizzlies were to fail in Memphis kind of like they did in Vancouver, at this time, a good fit could've been a Vancouver-Montreal share or a Seattle-Las Vegas one.

North Country Defenseman or Outlanders could also be a travel-tag-team representing the outlands of Canada and the U.S..  Oil money could facilitate a build for Williston, North Dakota.  Another one could be built in the likes of Bismarck and in South Dakota.  Omaha could lump itself in with the region.  Throw Boise in there for sure.  Let's say an arena is in (or constructed in) Boise, North Dakota, and Omaha/Lincoln.  That's 3 places on the American side.  Other North Country camps could be the Canadian loving likes of Halifax, St. Johns, North Bay, Thunder Bay, Saskatoon, Regina, Red Deer or Kamloops.

skirebel.com
Don't exclude the thoughts of Anchorage, Green Bay or Rochester either.  Or Seattle, TorontoDos, Portland or Quebec City.  I've talked about a Cleveland-Milwaukee Great Lakes brand in hockey.

If it were up to me, Seattle and Portland would land an expansion team this side of the glacier.
Let Las Vegas have Grand Canyon's echoing team or let them share the Coyots' with Phoenix.

An NFL Team named North Shore? Duluth, Minnesota

Not 150 miles from where most everything bigtime Minnesota happens.

http://bringmethenews.com/2015/05/15/proctor-city-council-member-wants-to-an-nfl-team-back-to-duluth/

And what in the heck would they be called now that the state name lays its wide claim?  "North Shore" would have to be it, right?

Sounds like a dream scheme, what, with all of the other formidable metropolises in line for a pro football team.

A Powerbrand Major League Expansion

If you heard that they're are powerbrands in sports you would probably guess the Yankees and Cowboys.  It irks the hell out of me, though it is a reality with so many snowbirds and retirees living in Florida, that so many Yankees live in Tampa.  There is a minor league team called the Tampa Yankees!  And when the fans create no illusion of filling the seats it makes you wonder if a team is deserved.

Absence makes the heart grow fonder and I have a solution for the Rays organization seating-wise.  And it would only help television ratings as well.
                                                                           And for the Athletics.
                                                                           And maybe the Raiders.
                                                                           And Coyotes.
                                                                           And Clippers.                   Oh my!

Expand your team-name Nation by co-location and rebranding.  If the Los Angeles Clippers became the West Coast Clippers, they're would surely be more fans.  Play some of the schedule in Seattle, it's a sure deal.  And can you see what I mean for the West Coast Coyotes?  Did you think about Portland and Las Vegas also?  West Coast Raiders in the same places?

piapetterson.com
If the Rays played some in Monterrey Mexico across the Gulf as the Tampa Bay-Monterrey Rays, do you think that would increase the base?  Me too.

And Las Vegas.  Las Vegas could participate in a brand in every league while the likes of Los Angeles will get another football club in name instead of MLS West Coast in more territory.

I wrapped more territory for a big nation and powerbrand.

And I didn't necessarily expand the number of teams.  I just placed play in more cities and expanded the proper name.

Baseball, basketball and hockey have more games so spreading out the schedule to home (camp) cities would work.  And a weekly scheduled event such as American hand football and World soccer football can fill the stands across the country whether it be a football stadium in Little Rock, Arkansas or soccer field in that same stadium or any number of big football stadiums nationwide.

San Diego Monterrey Madres Day

I have previously bloggeled' about combining cities for a power baseball brand.  An example is the Tampa Rays relocating or co-locating and/or combining with the likes of Charlotte, Nashville, New Orleans and Mexico for a Southern, Southland or Gulf or Coastal Run brand in the form of a regional home-camp travel (tag) team.  One such team thought is the Tampa Bay-Monterrey Rays.  And the Las Vegas with Portland West Coast A's or Vegas with the Montreal-Las Vegas International Expos.

What about the Padres?  The love could extend from Tijuana to Monterrey.  And it's not as far away as it is from Mexico City, some 1700 miles.

And instead of my past thoughts on a WMLB being a counterpart pre-game exhibition of sorts before the guy's games, do a switcharoo of precedence on Dia day' Mommy.

Chicagoland's Second Team. And America's Team. The "Midway" Expansion Team in America's Heartland

There are already the Bears and Bulls.

And there are two.  Just like NYC and LA.  The Whites Sox and Cubs.

And their teams play Redskins, Indians, Braves and Warriors

For the NFL, I propose a team housed half-time or part-time in Chicagoland called MIDWAY

Yes, like the Midway Bears.  A team called Midway that can also play in places like Omaha, Little Rock, or perhaps Oklahoma City.

What would be a good name?  The Midway what?

The possibility of sharing Soldier Field makes me think "Troops".

 Warriors.
Wolves.  Wolf Pack.  Mavericks.  Mustangs.  Imperials?

West Coast Angels Play in Anaheim and Portland. And/or Major League Baseball Las Vegas

I like the idea of taking a seat struggling franchise such as the Oakland Athletics or Tampa Bay Rays and relocating them PARTIALLY, which is essentially co-locating them, and bringing more baseball to more American pastime places such as Portland, Las Vegas, Nashville and Charlotte.  Aside from inflation concerns in number of teams or sustainability of the business of baseball in markets, people in such MLB absent cities want a team and hopefully the time comes in their lifetime.

But what if the above stated realities stay bleak?  Then I propose a share like Portland-Las Vegas and Nashville-Charlotte teaming up for a regional brand.  My first choices stated on this blog are for a West Coast Athletics and Southland Rays of some sort, even including the likes of Oakland/Sacramento, New Orleans and Monterrey, Mexico.  If the Florida Marlins come back into existence and share time with St. Pete Tampa, then surely the attendance at their home games would be better than embarrassing, instead of getting outnumbered by a Gloria Estefan concert.  And the Rays can stretch their history somewhere else.

see Business Journal Market Study 2015

Either way, with a broader name like the old California Angels and Marlins and the lone star state's Texas Rangers, or regional name claims like the Golden State Warriors and New England Patriots, co-location options for the home team increase.  And there are many options to wonder about.  Like the Angels also playing in Sacramento, the Rangers in Austin, or Marlins in Orlando.

I try to make my case.  Though in recent history, television market is a bigger money maker than money for seats at the ballpark I know the brand expansion is a way to make more people invested.
Wrap a bigger claim

A thought:  L.A. already has a team.  Expand the Angels brand into the West Coast Angels

If I can't have the A's this way, let it be a California Angels also playing upstate or in a place like Las Vegas or Portland.

Take New York's brand and consider some share-time with Buffalo.  They have a renovation-ready stadium beckoning.  Or imagine:  A power expansion team like the resurrection and renovation co-location of the East Coast Expos in Montreal and Charlotte.

See the existing gaps?

Counter the realities by co-location with a dose of the idea that absence makes the heart grow fonder.

What combination of cities or brands could you drum up in the big league sports?

Repping' all of the south?  Unfair.
Enticing idea?

American Sports make for Montreal & Vancouver a part-time town. NFL, NBA and MLB in Montreal.

NFL, NBA and MLB in Montreal.  American Sports make for Montreal & Vancouver a part-time town.  And so my argument goes...

Soccer and Hockey Represent!  And there used to be big league baseball for North America's largest MLB-absent city.  Well, Toronto is almost in all of the action.

Basketball for the likes of Montreal.  Like the NBA?  Too Vancouvery, you say?  Big Country?
Is the French city not enough of an American sports palette?  So,...no NBA there?

Yeah, but could the Grizzlies of north country have been sustained by playing in Vancouver AND Montreal?

I think that twin pairing of a Canadian east side and west side wrap could work.  It would work out especially swimmingly for any leagues division alignment.  Average it, it's a central division.  East, west- take your pick.

It's my travel-tag-team idea, much like the Kansas City-Omaha Kings of the NBA.  Yes, before they became Sacramento.

I have mentioned the Norde Force NFL team being hosted at CFL stadiums throughout Canada.  The name is a take on the French "North" and the Canadian Mounted Police, but with a much less politically nationalistically charged name.  I thought the same for a Mexico City-Monterrey brand; the Sur Toros.  Tickets are one thing but television is where the bulk of football nations would be tuned.  So I'm not thinking that all of the CFL stadiums should be revamped, or the Rogers Centre be the only host in country.

I like the Norde Force name.  I think it could work as a Vancouver, Montreal and Canadian franchise name in any of the leagues.

Baseball?  No time soon for anybody.

But anyway, check out some of my links below that throw around some combination town ideas for a power-brand franchise in big league sports.
