Big League Baseball in another Hemisphere like Australia

MLB Baseball in Sydney played before 2100?
Would there be a need for hemispheric rivalry?  Tokyo.  South Korea.  Hong Kong.  Beijing.
Then maybe Berlin, London and something like Sarajevo.
I think by virtue of leisure Australia and Japan are best suited.

I think that the western Pacific and Latin America will be playing MLB before MLB Europe.  Will Australia and Japan come in at the same time as Monterrey or Mexico City, Puerto Rico, Cuba and Venezuela and Bogota?

The Next Expansion Team. What's the Smartest Way for the Leagues to do it? Region Teams Equal More buy-in.

When I think of the next expansions these are the cities that pop in my brain first:

Portland and Charlotte for MLB
Questionable cities for where it's at now is Tampa and Oakland.  They're constant targets throughout my blog posts.  Re-locate?  Pull the old Baltimore to Indy with Tampa to Charlotte and Oakland to Portland.  Why abandon?  Why not co-locate and share?

NFL is Los Angeles and Toronto.
Questionable cities throughout my blog posts are St. Louis and Jacksonville.  And even a new home for the Raiders.  The Rams.  Ha, those old L.A. teams.

As far as the NHL, it's still obviously more north-centric.  Portland and Seattle in addition to the talked about Toronto2 and Quebec team?  I think if another team HAD to be in the south, one would probably think of Atlanta (though failed there recently), Las Vegas and Houston as far as markets.
Others south?  Oklahoma City and Iowa have AHL teams anyway.
But Seattle and Portland seem to be the talk on the American side of the ponds.  Yep, north.

For big show basketball there is a much more robust list of sustainable and feasible candidates that will be poised in the future.  More cities are on the docket for the NBA as well as MLS.

Regional Teams

I think the next expansion should be much further reaching for any league.  It shouldn't be named (or just be in) Portland or Charlotte.  How does "West Coast" or "Eastern" sound  for more buy-in?
Wouldn't it be cool for Las Vegas or Salt Lake City to have more for something to root for?
We can at least have more inclusive branding.  Some hometown pride may be diminished.  But the love could be spread across more territory.

I can't ignore the power of place.  I personally don't want the Cincinnati Reds to be named the Ohio Reds.  I'm Cinci born and bred.  Midwestern Reds?  Eh.  I do have an argument of over 100 years of traditional base.  Would I care to share the Bengals with Columbus and/or Louisville?  Or if the Rams head back to a rightful home in Los Angles would I be willing to share the River City Bengals with St. Louis?  Either way, I'd rather have some than none as far as major league representation.  What are your thoughts?
I think Las Vegas or Portland would love some home (camp) games for the West Coast Raiders.  I think the Gateway city of St. Louis would rather have the Western Rams than nothing at all.  I think home games camped there would certainly be more festive than the norm.  I'm willing to bet San Antonio, Oklahoma City, Salt Lake City, Oakland, Portland and Las Vegas would agree.  Power of place is a market study.  I'd like to know more.  A historical example is how Kansas City shared an NBA team with Omaha and a little with St. Louis.

Essentially, our professional athletes and even college athletes are mercenaries.  We accept that concept.  It's better to have than to not have.  For instance if you now have (share) a pro baseball or football team and have 40 and 4 home (camp) games, respectively, would it not be cool?  Mississippi has the Mississippi Braves baseball minor league affiliate team for big-time Braves baseball housed in Atlanta and named the Atlanta Braves, but wouldn't Mississippi and Alabama love it more if they were just called the "Southern Braves"?

At least, I feel the big leagues should call (and include in the name) the next expansion teams more.  It would even be cooler to host regular season and playoff games in more camps of a region.
When 1993 kicked off with Marlins and Rockies baseball, I think baseball was on to the right idea.  The Denver Rockies, Miami Marlins and Phoenix Diamondbacks (1997) isn't as inclusive of a name as the wider geographic swath.

The Marlins retracted to their family name of Miami after the state had a Tampa named team in the north of Florida.  They could become the Florida Marlins again if the Rays move or the Marlins also play games in Jacksonville camp.

Toss it around

For once per week American Football, L.A. Cali seems to be a region by itself.  Toronto is a political issue for league affiliation.  Their CFL team is the oldest professional sports franchise around.  Portland seeps into the argument.  So do Texas people of San Antonio brand.  I think we all know Alabama can handle more than two big games in a week.  The strong feeling of community to kick off the week.

Baseball might be the hardest deal for multiple locations in my camp team argument, but as far as having an all inclusive name with a regional tag, I believe it's very doable.  I could see the Southern Braves or Saints or Titans.  It could probably help the Jaguars money.  Certainly thinking of Atlanta for a hub of the south is an easy example.  I can't help but to think, since the ATL is about to help have two major league stadiums for baseball because one is being built and the other is about a decade and a half old that a southern-named baseball would be neat.  The city is the hub of the south.  But market reality is that big time baseball requires more money than double that in an area than any other major league sport.  Even Atlanta probably couldn't begin to fill the "Southern" stands on Tuesday night baseball when there is already a Braves base.

Branding.  A team simply re-named something West and South can work next round ...for any of the sports really.  Western Broncos?  Southern Saints?  West Coast Raiders?  Even in name, the sole location can stay the same.  But the soul location will be expanded.  St. Louis could house and share in on a West Rams or Raiders team.

What about camping out?  Imagine the Metropolitans expanding their brand from New York island to become the Eastland Metropolitans of let's say Indianapolis, Columbus and/or Buffalo.  Think Nashville and Charlotte.  Would apparel sales counter locational operating costs?  Wouldn't a great public service to Long Island taxpayers be housing amateur grown-up knothole leagues to get to play big league vacant time spans in Big League facilities.  Isn't that more buy-in?  "I (Joe Schmoe) played at Citi Field last Saturday", as the Mets were playing in Indianapolis about ready to kick off their road stand on the west coast.  Shake it up.
That's my team.  I shed sweat on that field.  It could be said.

LINK---Sporting: A talk on Sense of Place

NBA:  What about the Old West Grizzlies in Vegas, Kansas City and Memphis?  What about a franchise called "Eastern Standard" in the NBA.  What cities could they camp in?  Stuff like that.
NHL:  I think Milwaukee and Cleveland could have a Great Lakes moniker to share a top league ice bridge.
They can keep their AHL teams.  What do you say to the Southtown Predators play in Nashville and Atlanta?

More feasibility studies are needed to be taken in by me for me to sort out.  How much does it cost to run a top notch facility versus the incoming cost for tickets and concessions and all that jazz.

NFL in Alabama

Didn't Bear Bryant say something about Friday is for high school football,...Saturday for Roll Tide and Sunday for Church in Alabama?  Is that the way it works?

What about some tailgate churches on Sunday.
Jerry Jones isn't king of cathedrals.  What if tailgate services be held in God's omnipresent church of fresh air or stadium?

Alabama Elephants.  Could that be a team?  What about a south-named team?

As of 2012, all but 3 teams.
In other parts of my blog, I talked about how it would be neat to build a site in a place like Reform, Alabama so that there could be more of a pilgrimage trek on Sundays for Alabamans.  You rule king on Saturdays.  A 30 miles drive from Tuscaloosa or 80 miles from Birmingham could boost a fun-time economy somewhere else.  I have never been to Reform.  For me, it is more of a dart thrown at the map.  If you named your team "Southern", Mississippians would be willing to get in on the drive.

Do you have any ideas while I try to figure more on this?

MLB in Las Vegas

Some of the factors.

-Las Vegas is a blatant gambling town.

-Vegas is a resort town

I want to talk more on this.  I have to gather facts.  At earliest, I don't see it happening for twenty years.  I think baseball is weary of the retirement and resort population bases.  For instance, there are too many Yankees fans living in Tampa.  Many wonder if regular season baseball should be in Florida.
sportsgrid.com

But anyway, I'd like to make this post more robust with solid data.  There doesn't seem to be a lot of Vegas chatter on a quick google search with regards to MLB.  Certainly there's a lot to be desired and that's why I want to consolidate some chatter on the blog.   I'd like to hear from more Vegas born-and-breds on this topic too.  Anyway, more to follow hopefully.

Transplant town?  D'Backs, Angels or Dodger town?  Too touristy?  Tourists have monetary advantages.  Imagine a Jerry Jones stadium's multi-use potential there.

I think we're likely to see one of the other in the Big 5 hit Vegas first.  I wouldn't mind seeing the A's to co-locate there. What about the NFL and the West Coast Rams or Raiders???  Yeah, but like I said, more to follow.

MLB in 8 New States. Tales of Two Cities. The Next Expansion.

Places that are thought to not be able to sustainably hold an MLB team now....but maybe could share.

Indianapolis           40 home games each location
Louisville

Charlotte              40 home games each
Tampa

Nashville               50, 30 ???
New Orleans

Portland               50, 30 ???
Las Vegas or Oakland (maybe Sacramento)

All but the city of Tampa build 35-40 thousand seat stadiums.

People can care MORE in Oregon, the Carolinas (2), Nevada, Tennessee, Kentucky, Indiana and Lousiana.

Personally, if I were league dictator and choosing to name these teams, I would do as such (from top-listed to bottom):

The Crossroads Racers expansion club.

Coastal Rays as the old Devil Rays co-locate.

Southern Sound Dawgs expansion team.

West Coast Athletics either co-locate or re-locate.

 ....or what about Heartland Racers?

Major League Baseball in Nashville and New Orleans

I have talked before on my blog about a team being shared in the South between Charlotte and Tampa, as well as various other combinations.  I even brought up holding games in Atlanta's second major league stadium while the new one is being built in suburbia Atlanta.  And this could help buy time for stadiums being built elsewhere while ball is still played in Tampa.  MLB seems to be withering away in TB.  Share it.  It's better than vacating altogether, right?

So, let's say the Southern Rays now play in Charlotte and Tampa.
I think they could change their name to the East Coast Rays.........and...
and the Southern Sounds or Southern Sound Dogs could play in Nashville and New Orleans while two top-notch party stadiums of 35,000 seats are being built in those musical cities.  Maybe some Memphis too.

The Soultown Blues?  What do you think?  What would a good name be?

Face it.  As a Nashville or New Orleans guy, you might want it in your town ONLY.  But think with your head, it would never happen that way anytime soon.  You might not be able to do 80 home games and come close to filling the stands.  But maybe 40?
Then maybe you can prove yourself for the next expansions.

Major League Baseball in Portland and Charlotte

An expansion team for MLB doesn't seem like a strong likelihood very soon.
Relocation of the Oakland A's seems more likely.  With all the information that is out there for the A's moving, it all seems to be mixed signals and noise coming out of the Bay area as far as relocation of the Athletics.  But I think it's ideal.

If the A's would move to Portland
and the Rays would move to Charlotte
THAT WOULD BE BETTER FOR BASEBALL.

An alternative would be to share baseball and ease into markets till the time is ready to expand to a sole location.  Would it not be neat to share the West Coast A's with Oakland and Portland?  A combination with Las Vegas?  What about splitting time between Tampa and Charlotte for the Southern Rays?
Build smaller ballparks in each new city, like 35,000 seat facilities with room to grow (similar to how Buffalo, NY did).
Coast to coast MLB
I wish MLB teams based in Citrus League Land would scram from Florida altogether.  Or share the Florida Marlins between the cities of Miami and Tampa or whatever.

Eastland and Westward Basketball in the NBA

The Eastland Pioneers basketball team is located (from East to West) in Pittsburgh, Cincinnati and Nashville.
Eastland Mountaineers?

I left St. Louis open, maybe able to team up with Louisville or Kansas City for another franchise.

Who am I scheming to bring the big show to?
Northward Unions playing in Boise and Omaha?
Gateway Gamblers play in Vegas and Missouri?
Western Flight?

Or just a Western and Eastern team expansion with 5 camps each.  The dividing line would be Missouri.  KC in the west, St. Louis in the east.

Bringing the big time to Boise and Omaha

As a league dictator, I would turn the Utah Jazz into the West Valley Miners with camp in Albuquerque.

The Mobile Bengals of Alabama. Or the Louisville Bengals ?!

I talk about it in the previous posting.
Don't think it can't happen.  The lease is up in a few years.

What if the Bengals relocate or colocate ???

The Southern Bay Bengals docking in two to three campouts?

River Run Bengals of Cincinnati and Louisville

"River Run" or "River Bay" Bengals?

South Bay Bengals
South Bay Bengals of Cincinnati, Louisville and Mobile, Alabama.  They're "Mobile".  Get it?

What would you do this year and next as NFL dictator? Give the exercise a try in your mind.

West Coast Raiders
...in Los Angeles, Portland and Las Vegas
First seasons:  2 camp games, 3 and three, respectively.  Play in the closest big college stadiums in 2015.
Maybe do one game in L.A. and one in Oakland first year.  Then maybe play in Oakland, Portland and Vegas after L.A. gets their team back (a little further below).

Southern Saints
...in New Orleans, Tuscaloosa and Jacksonville.
First season:  4 home games in NOLA.  2 in Jacktown.  One in 'Loosa.  One in Louisville

Why Jacksonville?
Because I bounced the Jaguars from town.
I moved them north, ...to every big city in Canada is where.

The Norde Force.  Playing in all the CFL stadiums over the next few years.  We have college and pro ball.   Our cousins can have two pro leagues to pride over.

Los Angeles Rams.  buh-bye St. Louis.  I'm not a hater.  And not a lover for ya.

    ... .
Expanding,.... gun to my head.

Monterrey IN MEXICO.   International expansion surprise!
Closer than London.
So, a new stadium and stimulus for Norte Mexico.   Nortemexicano Toros sound good?

If inflation and experts just plead with me that the feasibility for this Mexican-American football isn't in the now... I would spread love for San Antonio and Central Texas as a whole.
So instead .... the Old West Cattlemen of central Texas (Austin/San Antonio, El Paso, Albuquerque and OKC).  A game in SLC.
First year:  4 in central Texas, two in Albuquerque, two in OKC.
St. Louis, ...make your case over the next few years to participate in the Old West brand of franchise football.

Or I just expand with the Old West Cattlemen and the Nortemexicano Toros along with my regional re-locate-expansion/rebrand.

Building new stadiums AS DICTATOR (saddam hussein didn't have to make sense .... but I wonder if this could generate cents):

NFL Stadiums:

Reform, Alabama

San Marcos, Texas

Las Vegas, Nevada

Monterrey, Mexico

Economic building boom occurring for Reform, Alabama.  It has proximity to the heart of Alabama and Mississippi, ...and maintains the sole of Crimson Tide pride.  Saturday and Sunday football tailgating for southerners.  Southern Saints.

Build a new stadium in San Marcos, Texas for the S.A./Austin market

Las Vegas could handle a big seating venue.

Makes me wonder as I sit here contemplating my regional team model, ...where teams camp in multiple cities to represent a broader area,....if I would be able to swallow my own pill.  Afterall, I thumb my nose at St. Louis and Jacksonville.  I have this thing in my mind that there is oversaturation and too much nonchalance in Florida.  I have figured throughout my blog, "screw you Florida" and things similar to "say bye bye to the Jaguars and rebrand Tampa Bay to the Florida Bay Buccaneers and play in Tampa and Jacksonville".

The Cincinnati Bengals owner Mike Brown could pull up stakes and how would I feel about that?  I thought it funny that I've heard in spots that LA says "hell-to-the-no" to Mikey Brown's Los Angeles Bengals.  It seems like Paul Brown Stadium (PBS) was built just a handful of years ago in downtown Cincinnati but it seems many owners are Jerry Jone'sing for a new Cowboys caliber cathedral.  And the Bengals lease is up 2017 and these greedy fuck owners think they're doing us all such a great favor by bringing mercenary thugs to our cities to gladiate their IQ all over the place ...that they shouldn't have to pay for the house they play in.  Could the Bengals leave.  You bet.  I bet.

So, let's say the Brown family gets seduced by another government just across the Ohio Kentucky stream for a New Jersey'esque relationship.  They could still be called the Cincinnati Bengals.  But also could become the Kentucky Bengals.  "My daddy's dead, here's your KY jelly Cinci fans.  Chew on that peanut butter".

What if Louisville or Lexington comes together to build a top-notch NFL facility that blows PBS out of contention.  Could Bengal Nation be renamed "River Run Bengals" while playing in Louisville AND Cincinnati.  River Bay Bengals?  Cinciville?

Swallowing more of my pill.

What about more cities in the mix.  Southern Bay Bengals?  Southern Belle Bengals?  Add a stadium in Mobile, Alabama?

Personally, if cost were alleviated from the taxpayer, I would have to say I'm okay with it.  And I think even the most die-hard staunch Cincinnati Jungle fan would rather love it than leave it.

Is the time ripe for MLB Expansion? The Talent is There. Which Market?

Sporting News Article (click link)

The Jays and Mets played in Montreal.  The fans chanted "Expos!".
Some Dodger ball was played down under.

If baseball went to 32 teams, would it coast-up some more in Portland and Charlotte?
Or would it join hands with my regional home/camp team model and put a West Coast team in, let's say, Portland and Las Vegas for "West Coast" and Nashville and Charlotte for "Southern".
Then maybe the Rays could relocate to Montreal sooner than later.

Southern Run Rays or Coastal Run Rays of Tampa/Charlotte or Tampa/Monterrey?
West Coast A's play in Las Vegas, also?
