Expansion Team Chatter for Hockeytown NHL. Vegas finally going pro.

I think it's a little premature with the talk of Las Vegas, especially with the existence of Arizona hockey.  I'm a little disappointed Portland didn't get a nod but know that it's more about Seattle.
Toronto Dos and Quebec City seem golden.
Just make the West Coast Coyotes a brand housed in two towns:  Portland and Las Vegas.

Would Vegas be just some more ice melt?
Las Vegas NHL.  Will this be a mirage or so hollow it echoes all the way to Arizona.

Will MLS get there first?

Other mentions of mine:  Cleveland and Milwaukee getting the Great Lakes Armada or Fleet.
Great move for Panther hockey.  Seeing a Cleveland writer's mention to the "North Coast" doesn't seem like a bad geographic moniker either.  Imagine all that could root for hockey as the team of north coast nation?

And Nashville combining with Atlanta to become the Southern Predators.

So, West Coast, Southern and Great Lakes (North Coast).  And then, in some other expansion, what about a Hartford based club that camps in Atlantic City, Baltimore and Miami every once in awhile called the East Coast Blockade,....or something or other.

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/913057-5-reasons-cincinnati-should-get-an-nhl-team

So, I've expanded the nod to Cleveland, Portland and Milwaukee.  And maybe some more Jersey, Baltimore and back in Hartford.  And countless camps and countries (regions) with my nod to expansive proper names for teams like north, south, east and west.

Markets of size but maybe not ready yet.  As proven:  Atlanta.
Houston.  That may be about it.

For my home region, I'm going to harp on something before signing off:  With my home (camp) team argument, the NHL could be substantiated throughout other towns.  Imagine a Great Lakes brand of hockey spreading it's home (camp) games through Milwaukee, Indianapolis, Cincinnati and Cleveland.  Ten games here, ten games spread there.  It's better to flirt and date with that hot tamale than not at all, right?  An alliance versus the likes of the Blue Jackets, Sabres, Red Wings and Blackhawks.  The Fleet taking on Toronto.
Great Lakes Country: what kind of apparel cash cow could that be for the NHL?

The Rams in St. Louis Suck. How about the Mississippi River Rams? A shared St. Louis and Mississippi team

The NFL in St. Louis is probably like how the NBA in town would be.

In part, the answer is 210 miles from the stadium in Nashville; the same distance to Jackson, MS

The Minors. Ready for Majors?

Toledo tops the list for minor league business spirit.  A drive hop down I-75 to Dayton shows the best minor baseball attendance in the land.

Are Las Vegas, Omaha, Albuquerque, El Paso and Dayton ranked as low as you would expect?
Any time in the next two decades, it seems to me their only hope for big time would be a shared (travel) team for the likes of these markets.  Ha, the Gambletown Travelers of Kansas City-Vegas.  Get creative.

Shuffling the Franchises for MLB, NFL, NHL and NBA (......Okay, no Campy Talk, so ONE SPOT)

For those not familiar with my posts, "no campy talk" means that I won't talk about sharing a regional team, for instance the West Coast Athletics playing home(camp) games in Oakland, Portland and Las Vegas (and some Honolulu and Anchorage).

And throughout my blog murmurings my targets for relocation of big league franchises are known:
Tampa Bay baseball
Jacksonville football
St. Louis football
Oakland baseball and football.

Los Angeles, you know you're going to be on the receiving end of some football.  But I might take your Clippers and Anaheim Angels

All these cities....well hell, I'm really for co-locating them there for a share, still.  But for this sake, just relocation to one place.
Gosh darnit, you don't know how hard it is for me not to mention how Tampa and Monterrey, Mexico should share the Gulf Port, Gulf Coast or Gulf Run Rays.

But anyway:
The Los Angeles Raiders are really going to be called the California Raiders
Portland Rams.  Or should it be called the Oregon Rams?
The Louisville Jaguars are going to be called something else.

Oakland hate me.  Portland love me.  The Portland A's.
Miami houses the Florida Marlins again.
Charlotte or Mexico?  Mexico or Charlotte.  Sorry Charlotte.  The Monterrey Rays.  Atmosphere and flavor.  Some sandlot ball.  Fired up passion.
The California Angels have a new home up in Sacramento.  Can't they split time with northern California???  Can't they?

As much as I want the Ohio River and Cincinnati to float the Cincinnati Clippers, I'm going to part with heart and go for the Seattle Clippers.
Since in the blog world I can dictate....:
I hereby order the New Orleans Jazz and keep the ridiculousness of even Pelicans (moniker and existence) in Salt Lake City.  Might as well be unicorns or Kenny G' Zuesses.
Not your average Supersonics

Or

1978-84

All I really have for Hockeytown is the Western Coyotes playing in Portland or Seattle.  I got the NBA in Seattle and brought the big two to Portland.  Guess the big 5 belongs in Seattle a little more.  Sorry trailsonics.

Hmmmm.  What else?

Utah Jazz or Pelicans?

For States without Big League Ball the Next Landing will be Las Vegas or Louisville

Realistically.

MLS futbol and NFL football are weekly, so what's the wait? (....dilution of talent, TV market money divides)
NHL, while doable in Vegas, has too many others in line.
So, the NBA, whenever it expands, would be great in Louisville.

Las Vegas has proximity to southern California and Arizona team markets.
Louisville contends with Indiana and Cincinnati, pretty much within a hundred miles for the NFL/NBA and NFL/MLB respectively.

http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/2014/07/21/thinking-long-term-mls-preliminary-discussions-over-expansion-franchise-las-

http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/2014/06/04/orlando-citys-usl-pro-franchise-move-lousiville-2015-will-become-mls-teams-a

My guess would be for when the NBA is ready to expand:
And an expansion that would have Seattle in the west would need an east team.  Louisville!

Murmuring down the line, so if Vegas and Seattle enter the league, who else easterly?  Hartford, CT?  A joint Little Rock/Birmingham camp for a Southern team.  Southern Railroad?  Fantasy land?
But don't forget that when you split the map Kansas City, St. Louis, Cincinnati and Pittsburgh are among major league towns like Tampa who could argue a bit for some big time basketball.  But how could one argue that the passion would exceed that of Louisville's.  Out of the above listed, I would say Cinci (touting Xavier, UC and the past).  But personally I wouldn't have the heart to argue against Louisville's big time.

Travel Teams and Travel Facilities: East Coast vs. West Coast vs. Great Lakes vs. the Gulf vs the Rivers

Portable stadiums.  Travel teams are portable but what about facilities.

This cruiseliner concept pic was posted in my very first post.

http://www.markmatters.com/futuristic-design/
Wouldn't it be cool if you could get the NBA and were living in Atlantic City, Newport News, Charleston or Jacksonville.  Or even Louisville, St. Louis, Cincinnati and Pittsburgh.   ....and your city wasn't hip to paying for a new facility, so a travel team AND FACILITY rolled into town.  Casino arena?

The Ohio River Rollers v. the East Coast Fleet.  Or the Mississippi River Pelicans or Grizzlies v. the Pacific Coast Blockade (who have an arena in Vegas and a ship that cruises and/or docks from San Diego to Seattle to Anchorage and Honolulu.  On the ocean the other sports could be done.  That's one big arse retractable dome stadium.  But as more land-use is of a necessitated consideration ... .

For a team, do you even care to share?  If you were in Buffalo, I know you'd love to build a stadium to share the Yankees.  But what about sharing a new NBA team with Pittsburgh called Eastland Somethingorothers?

What are other connections between towns?  Proximity (region).  Railroads. Rivers.  Coast. Highways.  Scheme something up.  Portland-Seattle (Northwest) and Cleveland-Milwaukee (Great Lakes) for the NHL?  Stuff like that.  Or am I crazy?

NBA MidAmerican Express Travel Team (for Louisville, El Paso & Austin...and maybe St. Louis?)

Express?  Stallions?  Mid American Mustangs.  What about this travel team camping in Louisville and Texas?  What about something funky?  ...Like American Heart Railroad.  I don't know.

I read a 2012 bleacherreport article (below) that talked of having an NBA team in place like El Paso.  It mentioned that markets similar to it but a little bigger that don't have a team were the cities of Louisville and Austin.  I believe all three deserve a team.
How could that work in the coming decade?
From Louisville to El Paso it's 1500 miles.

El Paso doesn't really encroach another market, Austin and Louisville arguably do.  Austin is the largest American city without pro sports.

Let's do this.  Let's get more of a region to love it.  Get invested in it.  Let's set up camp for a travel team.  Let us give it a few homes.  From Kentucky to Texas.  Mid American Express?  Kentucky-Texas Railroad?
Central Continentals?
Wouldn't St. Louis be a good stop off for the NBA?

#NBASt.Louis
#NBALouisville
#NBAAustin
#NBAElPaso

Pound that into your brainbox and swirl it around a couple times.

Forget Florida. Go Mississippi in the NFL. Jackson? Jaguars

Could it work?

The five county metropolitan area that comprises Mississippi's capital city (~500k) is around 330,000 less people than the population of the Jacksonville, Florida city itself (boasting about 1.3 million in the area).  That's Florida's largest city and the largest stretch of city limits within the contiguous United States.

Jackson is about 180 miles from New Orleans.  Cats v. Voodoo.  Tailgating in Mississippi has got to be something else compared to the 'ville.

A 62+ thousand seat football stadium already exists in the Mississippi town.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mississippi_Veterans_Memorial_Stadium

Mississippi Veterans Memorial, 65,000 fans as is.

A proposal for the future:
http://www.bandhead.org/forum/topics/jackson-state ...... (FUTURE STADIUM????)

Since 2009 and some dismal attendance in Jacksonville, there has been chatter for a move to the likes of Los Angeles and London.  Why not keep the beast in the southeast.  SEC country is lacking NFL in the likes of Alabama, Mississippi and Arkansas.  Hmmmm, Birmingham is about 140 miles from Atlanta.  190 from Nashville.   Little Rock is 320 miles from Dallas and Nashville.  420 from KC.   290 miles from St. Louis.  Which city deserves it?

If ever a Big Time Pro Sports Team in New Mexico

As with any other not-so-populated area, the best bet for a pro sports gathering is the NFL when thinking of the big show.  Once a week for gathering, from afar if loved.

Throughout my blog, and especially mentions on posts in Spring 2014, I lay out some links and regurgitate some rationale behind what kind of figures like TV markets and money it takes in an area to qualify for franchises in each league.

Money in market to hold a franchise.

  • $85.4 billion for MLB
  • $37.6 billion for the NHL
  • $36.7 billion for the NFL
  • $34.2 billion for the NBA
  • $15.4 billion for MLS
From what I gleaned riding the computer super highway there is over $75 billion in New Mexico's market.

Yep, your best bet, like everyone else, is to vie for a soccer team.

No baseball for you.
That is unless my regional camp team model is embraced.  For instance:  The Arizona Diamondbacks recoin themselves as the Western Diamondbacks or Great West D-Backs and split time between Phoenix, Albuquerque or wherever else as home (camp) games.  40 games here, 40 games there or some sort of variation.  Even if this were to happen today, it probably would be wise for a 35,000 seat ballpark to be constructed until the future of your state warrants more growth.

If New Mexico had a team name what could it be?
Grande West?
Bandits
The baseball Cowboys?
Ranchers?
The Landers?

Albuquerque a noche

You saw my D-Backs example above.
What do you think about the West Coast Cardinals (in 2014, of Los Angeles, Phoenix and Albuquerque) ???

39 to 45 thousand fans.  Right-sized business.
UNM

Who could get baseball or whichever sport before  New Mexicans?
Do the math:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_U.S._states_by_GDP

The sky's the limit.  Pic of Albuquerque.  If you haven't been there who'd 'uh thunk it?

Seattle with the NBA Team Again. And a New NHL Team

Seattle would still be stoked of the Supersonics again.  At least those coffee sippers would be.

Sacramento: Visiting the Possibility of more Pro Sports in the Capitol of California.

Not a hundred miles away from Golden Gate of the Golden State competition, the Kings of California play.
Football and baseball are missing from the big 3 at this place.  They only tout the NBA.  Just like Portland.
A Northern California or California moniker could easily be claimed by this capitol of California.

Notwithstanding New York, New Jersey and Connecticut capability to cram more pro team competitiveness in close proximity to each other on the megalopolis of the eastern seaboard.     .... Another coast has a claim to be a vacuum for more pro team capacity.  It is Sacramento.

It is basically 80 miles away from the Bay Area of San Fran, Oakland and San Jose professional ilk.  The California A's might be better served in Dusty Baker's hometown.  I would plainly like to see the California Angels split time with Southern Cali's saturated LA-Anaheim.

Of course, Sac Town would like the Raiders and A's a bump north to join the land of the basketball King fandom.  Why not the California Raiders at least?  Given the money for maintaining baseball, the NFL almost always makes more sense.  The greater Sacramento area population is pretty much the same as the Queen City "of the west", Cincinnati.  My hometown.  So, I can see more in store for Sacramento charm.

Portland: Visiting the Possibility of more Pro Sports.

In my previous blog (about Sacramento) I talked about another NBA city without other, arguably rightful, want/need of another big league team.  Like the NHL, MLB and NFL from Portland.

Aside from the Trail Blazers, they have the Timbers of MLS clout for their representation in the Big 5.  So, like many other cities, they are 40 percenters.  That is to say they have 2 big league teams out of the 5 leagues (2/5).  Cincinnati, Indy, Nashville and Baltimore are others to name a few more.  But how many Portlanders would trade the NBA or MLS to have one of their teams in the Big Two (MLB/NFL)?

Which one would Oregon want more these days, the NFL?  I've argued stealing either one of the Oakland teams up the coast would be the quickest way.  But with Los Angeles being the obvious choice for the NFL, without my alternative idea of a West Coast moniker and some camp sharing of a new team, I think the best bet for the big thing coming is the NHL to the northwest.  Seattle already has baseball and might be more of a beacon across the way from Canuck territory.  So, the MLB being there and/or Charlotte next is probably the brightest possibility.  Economically and expansion-wise, the times aren't upon us quite yet.  Or are they, Portland?

I would like to see the Portland A's or West Coast Athletics myself.  And let the California Angels share northern California with the saturated SoCal.

It is time for most of Pro Sports to vacate Oakland and Tampa

And yes, if I was from there I would hate me too.

Obviously, there is no sports dictator and I'm not it.  But, if I was my thoughts are this:

There is some West Coast real estate hankering for a team.  For MLB and NFL, it's Portland.  They could take both Oakland teams.

And yes, I'm from Cinci so you would talk about the Bengals leaving.  How they were second in blackouts behind the Bucs.  I'd prefer the Jaguires to vacate before the Bucs.  But the Rays existence in Tampa seems retarded so it sucks in my attention.  It draws my attention more than Rays fans to seats.  With some argument from some, maybe those from the likes of Louisville, the eastern continent isn't begging for attention from the NFL.  Toronto kind of has Buffalo.  I might even leave you alone Tampa.  But why can't you pirate the river from time to time and be in Louisville as a Southern Buccaneer?  I know, the Saints could do that too.

Back to the other side.
The Raiders should at least be in Los Angeles if not shared with or in Portland, Las Vegas or even the California Raiders of Sacramento (I believe baseball-hoarding L.A. should do this too).  I would agree with you Oakland, if you gripe that the Rams should go back to L.A. or share with Portland.

Hopping back and forth.
I'm not particular on the Lightning.  I could leave them alone.  I'd rather move the Panthers.  Or even the Coyotes.  But, what of Portland and Seattle for tracking on the ice?  And then just the Florida Lightning shared in two ports and Nashville with Atlanta in the south.

My only solution to the heartbreak which would make the heart grow fonder in its loss for the likes of Oakland and Tampa teams alongside places of potential loss like Jacksonville football or Atlanta hockey is this:  Share your team with another camp.  The West Coast Raiders and West Coast Athletics.  The Raiders in Portland, Los Angeles and Las Vegas for the time being,  A little in Oakland (maybe even Sacramento).  The Athletics of Portland and Vegas.  A little still in Oakland or again, a little somethin' somethin' in Sacramento.

Tropicana Field in Florida.  It's the only non-retractable dome in baseball.   And did I say it's in Florida!??!
The Latin influence and its future with baseball has got to be the biggest thing keeping the big leagues in Miami.  It can't possibly be those Gloria Estephan pajamas they wear.  I thought the Florida Marlins moniker was way better.  The Marlins could house a camp in Tampa and Jacksonville.  But anyway!
Tampa, share your Southern Rays with Charlotte.  Maybe a little dance here and again with New Orleans.  Maybe the song of baseball hummed now and again in Nashville.  Tune your game.  Share the love.

How charming is this, Florida?  Romantic?  This dome?  Maybe if she had breast cancer and you love her.

I might get hate mail from Buccaneer fans.  But as far as baseball in Tampa I'd probably only get hate mail if I talked junk about the Yankees.

A team named Paradise in Nevada. Pair'a'dice could be Las Vegas's NBA, MLS, or NHL Team. Or is their first team most likely NFL?

What will be the first big sport in Vegas?

I would have to think the weekly venue of NFL and tailgating can fit the bill.  The service industry and tourism haven of taxes should get one hell of a facility built.  Bill it as Saturday home games.  And I bet Las Vegas would build one great palace indeed.

Link: Someone else's point of view on cities that deserve an NFL team   Beware of whichever pencil dick pieced this together for advertiser friendly mis-clicking.

Whichever league lands there first, consider the name Paradise.  Snakeyes ball.

While the NBA or NHL might be more likely than MLB, I think if Vegas built an unignorable 35,000 seat gem for the major leagues and drew either the Dodgers, Diamondbacks or Padres to the city of sin for let's say 30 or so games a year as home games they could expand their franchise's nation.  If we have to put our feet in the water before jumping in, so be it.   Ballpark/convention/concert center.

Okay, would Las Vegas have too many other attractions and distraction outdoors, outside of stadiums the likes of other resort and wonderful weather areas like Florida?

I have been a broken record for many a' mention on my blog for having the West Coast Raiders and Athletics sharing a team with Las Vegas and the likes of Portland.

100 Years from Now. 200? More people. The Pro Sports looking more like an NCAA Bracket

Will there be way way more than 30 teams in 200 years?  Closer to 60 teams in the year 2114?
Some questions might be obvious, but they have to be asked.  In thinking, how far is too forward?

Notwithstanding some modern conscious environmentally eco-friendly attitude adjustment to breeding and population growth, if mating couples just have two offspring to replace the furthering of their humanity on earth someone can still do the math.  More teams and players with that thing about talent quality not diluting the competitive excellence.  But when more teams are ready to be out to market, think of some of these family names.  WILL WE BECOME CITY-STATE LINEAGE FAMILIES IN AMERICA  ??????

The Yankees demonstrate this in the early part of the millennium as many families birth from that population port hub of the best coast.  People in Tampa, some born in Florida, are Yankees fans because most of their family is from NYC.
And as expansion occurs over the decades, professional teams could be cross-town rivalries:
Brooklyn
Manhattan
Long Island

What of more geographical expanses?
Inland Empire
Northern California.  For instance, an existing franchise of Sacramento could just change there name to the North California Kings.  Will the Dakotas and Wyoming and Montana populate enough to hub a major team?

There will be gaps officially filled in with MLB.  Indianapolis between Chicago and Cincinnati.  Columbus between there and Cleveland.  Nashville between there and Atlanta.  Las Vegas finally.  The population boom of Boise.  Albuquerque, SLC ...... You get the picture.

In a hundred years, "for a long time, now" there has been the MLB and more in towns like these:
Portland
Charlotte
The population of New Orleans became robust enough to break off and have it's own baseball team, instead of sharing the Rays of Tampa too.  Those Coastal Run Rays.  Nashville might be rocking it too.

Travel Camp Teams could quest the cities of mediocre buzz all across middle America:
Call the surname of these geographical expanses this:
Southern for a team playing in Mobile and Jackson, Miss.
Western for Butte and Casper.

Will there be teams housed in Puerto Rico, Berlin, London, Paris, Manilla, Tokyo, Sydney and Rio de Janeiro?

It's funny how I'm willing to practically gut or share the guts of Oakland of all of their pro sports teams accept Golden State but point to the future of sports with one of their business chief's writings:  http://online.wsj.com/articles/billy-beane-on-the-future-of-sports-a-tech-driven-revolution-1404762964

Dubai or any cosmopolitan Middle East, given the sluggish improvement in all facets of culture compared to the rest of the world, has a long goddamned way to go in my mind.
