The Triple-A G-League Affiliation

I have more bush league hardwood smack to talk.  In a perhaps faraway time, when hoops has as robust a minor league professional system as does baseball, there may be more of a AAA, AA, and A ball amount of farm teams in the G-League.

And here would be my idea for it.  The Trip-A teams (cool way to say Triple),....call it the Three Point league in the tiered farm system, would take on the parent club nickname.

The questions of where would be best is questionable.  Should the club locate regionally or reach-out?

I would like some Cincinnati Celtics.  But I'd take some Cinci Pacers or Cavs.  Hell, I like Bucks.

There'd be somewhat of a rebirth of the San Diego Clippers.  Or in the meantime the Louisville ones.  Seattle Trailblazers or Boise Blazers?  Albuquerque Mavericks.  Baltimore Wizards.  Fill in the blanks.

Looks like more of a future Double-A map to me.

Cincinnati Cavaliers or Canton Charge ?

If you want more Cinci people keeping up with the NBA, I'd say it should be the Cincinnati Cavaliers.  My geographic thoughts on  Canton or Cinci pulls between geographic loyalty and expanding the draw.  My bias as a Cincinnati kid would argue market size in the argument.  Logistically, travel-wise, Canton is closer for a call up player.

Since I'm an ol' Reggie Miller fan, I'd take Cincinnati Pacers.  I may be inclined to watch more Indiana Pacers games that way.  If I'm King, for a G-league affiliation, I wouldn't mind Clippers, but I'd love Celtics.

4 Islands of the NFL

With a Portland expansion franchise it's 3. Oklahoma added to that is 1 NFL mass.  If it's Louisville added instead of one of these it's 2.  Technically Toronto would make for the biggest contiguous touch

MLS expanding Too Fast ? Bigger Brand names

Maybe not.

Look, I keep an effortlessly passive eye on sports, and I don't know much about soccer.  It's the world sport.  I'm a world studies dude, a certifiably geography dude,... and I'm ignorant to the one ball fury that isn't basketball, worldwide.

In fact, that we're not world caliber in our understanding or awe of soccer feetball, probably helps encourage us to play as opposed to intimidating those of us who didn't get a youthful start with the game.

Are we fixated on this number of at least 30 teams?  Even golden MLB didn't get to that seeming benchmark until about the turn of last century.

What about a WEST COAST ALLIANCE?

Hub it in Las Vegas.  Spend time in Oakland, or at least San Diego.  Maybe even in Phoenix or Tucson until there's an Arizona Alliance down the road.  Cover more ground with less franchises, because, after all, the concern is that quantity will water down quality.

I like bigger brands with quality names.  When St. Louis comes to be, call it simply GATEWAY.  What cities would make a good East Coast combination?  At least some scrimmage in Jacksonville and Norfolk?  Call them the Fleet.  A couple places of play could be had for Texas Excited.  Or Divided.  I was all about a Divided brand as Ohio Divided playing between both NFL stadiums in Ohio, but now Cleveland is lonely.  But what if Indian Country links up with Brewer Nation for the Great Lakes Fleet or Navy?  Throw in Rochester for that mix.  Tag in Detroit till something like the Detroit Arsenal takes shape.  Think of that, Gilbert? Appalachia Bootleggers United....On and on.

I even like the sound of a Gold Coast Ghosts tagging between Sacramento and San Diego.  Or call them California Boat Crew.  On and on.

8 Islands of the NHL

Do you spy the land of Saskatoon?  Hint:  it's not in the heart of America.

For the NHL provincial outlay I have, Quebec City is an island in its own right.
7 or so i$lands?  Why is Quebec City a hockey desert?  Skate that.  Et tu, Brute?

Monday, March 11, 2019

3 Islands of the NBA

Seattle's arena and addition would still be 3; the addition of Louisville in the east, or one of the Missouri metros at heart would make it 2 islands of contiguous noise.

Saturday, March 9, 2019

6 Islands of Major League Baseball

Technically, Sault Ste. Marie,.... it's 5 in statehood continuity.  At right, Washington State moved to the middle so it wouldn't feel so lonely
One could see how big the islands would become with the addition of Portland and Nashville, or another Carolina name brand.

North American training site for a London NFL team

espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/24078578/where-nfl-nba-mlb-nhl-wnba-mls-nwsl-look-expansion

Where would be a good training site for such an NFL franchise?  Would it be a possibly-abandoned location such as one left behind at Jacksonville's port?  It would seem to be more of an east coast one.  Or perhaps Toronto.  This could be some touchy turf.

*also of interest in the article, it's noted that 4 out of the most 31 populated places in America are in Texas with an assumed amount of 40 million people in the state in 20 years.

The Truckers, Farmers and Fishermen names

I've listed some contrived future teams as the Indiana Farmers, Tennessee Truckers and Southlakes (Austin and/or Atlanta) Fishermen in my blog.  Diesel sounds awesome.

Don't you think the apparel would be a shot out of a cannon?

1998 Expansion Season showcased the Capitals of the Minor Leagues

Over 20 years ago, the capital cities of minor league baseball were awarded expansion franchises into the big leagues.

Who's next?  Nashville, Charlotte, Montreal, Vancouver, Portland, San Antonio or Las Vegas?  Or are relocations, much like the Montreal to D.C. move in the works with the A's and Rays ?

Location Swap. Tampa Bay for Tennessee MLB Brand

Registered trademark of the Rays, MLB.

As I've mentioned numerous times, I'd like the Marlins to bounce between grapefruit coasts and be the Florida Marlins again.  That'd create a physical absence that'd make the heart grow fonder for butts in seats with 40 games in Miami and the Tampa Bay area, instead of 80.  That'd free up the Rays brand for a move to the likes of Montreal, Charlotte and Nashville.

For Tennessee, a team called "the Band", or the Traveling Band (TB) between the country and blues musical cities of Nashville and Memphis is a dream for me.  A generic uniform sporting the band name could be brandished for some exhibition in New Orleans, or perhaps the Carolinas (if they don't have a team by then in Charlotte).

Fantasyland: Will there ever be a 4 or 5 sport Championship Year for a Single Market ?

Add a bat, a puck or face mask and soccer ball for the feet...

Could something like that ever happen?

...For the Red Sox, Pats, Celts and Bruins .... with the Revolution to boot ?

That would implicate some tremendous locker room pressure.  That would be a ton of breathing down the spine of the Revolution approaching December if the Red So-hawks accomplished their end of the effort with the rest of the boys.

The Geography of a Missouri River Barons

St. Louis or Kansas City aren't sporting the NBA yet.  The Kansas City-Omaha Kings were the NBA team before the Sacramento Kings.  They played games in StL as well.  The geography of the name covers Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa, both Dakotas and Montana.  That's one populated state with Omaha as part of 8 total states in name.  From Omaha to Montana, I see some high school gyms getting filled for preseason action.

How do you like the franchise names?  Can watch some of these on national tv (CBS).

A rebirth of Vince McMahon's XFL which will come next year geographically pits Orlando (aaf) with Tampa (xfl), Memphis with St. Louis, San Antonio with Houston and Dallas, San Diego with Los Angeles,.... and for a long stretch the ATL versus the XFL's coasts of Seattle to New York and DC.  XFL has two more teams (cities).

Louisville Horsemen or Crocks NBA ?

Is it time to get a team to Louisville and the Yum Center?  The Colonels, or the Horsemen, or the 'Gators or 'Crocks?  Would this be where the Pelicans move to ?

2012 in New Orleans
My last post made mention of NOLA woes.

And I always have to namedrop this NFL dealy with Louisville.  The Kentucky Downs sounds like a helluva' name.

Moving Murmurs: NOLA

Soon, the Babycakes (Zephyrs) Triple-A team is gone from baseball in town.  It moved on to Wichita, Kansas.

But what about the NBA team?
I saw murmurs and concern (with the death of the owner).
But nothing solid.
It would be sad.

A team for a time named the New Orleans - Oklahoma City Hornets, due to Hurricane Katrina, became two different teams and Charlotte Hornets again.  Now we have the renamed New Orleans Pelicans and an Oklahoma City Thunder (once the Sonics before moving)

As far as moves, for awhile now, we've been hearing about the likes of Jacksonville and Oakland in football.  And Tampa Rays and A's in baseball.  Some stadium sweating for Arizona on the diamond.  Vegas seems to be a movers favorite.  Carolina 'Canes are on more permafrost icing.  In all, talk is cheap.  Chat is cheap.  It sells rags.

Eating myself into Stuper Bowl 34

34 teams

Toronto and Oklahoma next ?

How does Nord Force sound, mainly based in Toronto ?
Canadian Power would've been awesome with the Chargers moving there instead of Los Angeles.

Kentucky Downs or Louisville Horsemen is snazzy.

The Portland Pacifics (tall trees) or Redwoods.  Oregon Talls.  How about the West Coast Raiders play at least four games in Las Vegas?  Tons of ideas on the blog.  Give me your's in the comments.

Shit on a shingle for 'Souper Bowl won.

Triple-A Baseball at Yankee or Mets Stadium a better Bet ?

Now, I know part of my expansion aim is to spread the love, and    ....................................................market more territory

,........NYC is a big place.  And while the Yankees affiliate territory is on the outskirts of its metro, and that's a good market play,.... wouldn't this massive city turn out to watch its high A club prospects play in market?  Would Yankee stadium at a lesser price fill more than the amount of seats in Scranton ?  I don't know, maybe.

But I can't argue with the newly minted Syracuse Mets.  New York is New York

The newly minted Las Vegas Aviators, formerly the 51s, are Trip-A affiliated with the Athletics now instead of the NY Metrocharletans' (I'm kidding).

MLS case for St. Louis and Sacramento.... and 30 total teams

A thorough case for the S-teams:
forbes.com/sites/prishe/2019/01/23/will-sacramento-or-st-louis-become-major-league-soccers-next-franchise

Futures not pictured: Miami, Nashville and Austin.  wikipedia.org
That looks to be 28 squads with teams like Austin and Miami lying in wait.
After those squads, who else?  Two more and a tenth year breather?

                Arizona and Carolina ?
Something wilder like West Texas Divided or tag-teams like North Country or West Coast United? What Travel-team like squad could comprise East Coast or Bootleggers (Appalachia) United ?
San Diego and Tampa?
OKC and Alberta?

Seattle's AHL team in Portland ?

arenadigest.com/2019seattle-ahl-affiliate-expected-2021-22-season

I'd say it's about time Oregon steps up it pro-hockey game.  The triple-A of hockey would be a fit, wouldn't you say?  I'm not informed about the ice arena situation there, but I know the Trailblazers in big basketball are housed in Portland.

There is a vacancy since the Barons team in Oklahoma City moved over with a name change to Bakersfield, California.   It's more central than west.  OKC was part of a five city abandonment in the American Hockey League.   Those teams made there way for California in NHL Pacific Division territory for the '15-16 season.  Teams in New York, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and Virginia were moved out.  In Canada a team moved from Hamilton to St. Johns after St. Johns became the Manitoba Moose in Winnipeg.  There have been relocations and other moving and shaking in AHL.

Anyhoo, in naming an Oregon/Portland AHL team, a name of portability or transferability is the West Coast Coast.  They can move or house themselves in multiple locations, as do the Portland Winterhawks junior minor league squad of the Canadian Hockey League (major juniors) play in two arenas (one that mainly hosts the NBA Blazers).  The West Coast Ghosts could play in two or more towns.

FC Cincinnati landed the MLS expansion bid, before that Nashville, essentially two horses coming out of nowhere.
Sports Gambling is getting bigger and bigger.  And more acceptable with MLB.

Columbus will keep the Crew AND Austin will get an expansion bid instead.  Vegas was a first.  Austin's time is coming.

Maybe they're a bit more divorced from Gloria Estefan, but they'll be greatly improved if we all can just Make the Marlins Florida Again.  Which means shipping full-time MLB out of Tampa.  The Florida Marlins can do more butts in seats by playing on both of their coasts.
