NHL might add two more soon.  We're thinking Quebec with the newbie of Las Vegas.
MLS is currently at 20 with more on the definite docket.

The markets of Los Angeles and New York, the biggest American markets, hog up more than their share.  They have two teams each in the Big Five.  I guess I didn't say fair share one way or another.

Markets on the cusps and missing some now?  Let me name a few.

Untouched by Big Leagues?:
Louisville             
                         My favorite idea is Kentucky Downs football, though I realize NBA should be first.
No longer an issue with Las Vegas missing, though in line with my theme, sharing the team under the name West Coast with Seattle and/or Portland seemed more appropriate.  

The gaping market remaining in the NFL?:
Toronto
                         My favorite idea is Norde Force
For the MLB, at present I prefer the relocations or colocations of the Rays and A's.  In my blog I've talked about the West Coast A's and the Rays relocating to Charlotte or Montreal or even Monterrey.
Then maybe we can do a better, ore exponential expansion of two teams, like the North Country Lumberjacks (the 'Jacks).  Search the terms- I wrote about 'em.

Oklahoma Omaha Pilots as a MLB Expansion Team in Central Division

And not Omaha's first big league rodeo either.

They were part of the NBA's Kings.  Before Sacramento,...in history they were in Rochester to Cincinnati to Kansas City.  And with Kansas City, they played regular season games in Omaha and St. Louis and were called the Kansas City-Omaha Kings.  I'm for bringing back such a motif.

Would this be a good format for baseball?  What about the Oklahoma(City)-Omaha Pilots?  They could even sport jerseys every once in awhile that have Midland written across the front, especially in special games played near oilfields like the Bakken in the Dakotas.

Would it not be neat?  Would it not combine the power of two less-than-optimal markets together for a 40 games each home (camp) game split?  Yeah sure, the KC Royals baseball team wouldn't like this, as it surely would steal some fans, mostly outside of Kansas.  To me, this is the most viable team in the middle of America, whereas there is argument for franchise viability nearer the coasts like Charlotte, Portland and Sacramento.  San Antonio is argued but arguably lackluster for the numbers needed for practically daily games.  I have solutions for all this in my blog.  Rangers playing in San Antonio also as well as the California Angels partial birth up in Sacramento.  Stuff like that.  Or a West Coast (Port-Las Vegas) or East Coast (Mon-Char?) combos.

But yeah, if I were the MLB Dictator and we were expanding by four teams, I'd still expand first world North America before getting into the likes of Monterrey.  And I'd do all the cities I mentioned and more.

Put the Foot in Football and a Leg Up on the Markets

I have two points.  Ties in football suck.  And having some deserving markets without a big time team also sucks.

Have a kick-off,...or should I say field goal off.

Put the foot in football.  Move the ball back, mano y mano.  Sudden death miss that doesn't match.  Settles that, now doesn't it.


And my theme:

Combine cities for a Franchise 

Let's say the Raiders leave Oakland.  They could split time as the West Coast Raiders in Las Vegas and Portland or Sacramento or some such.  A town can handle a (home-camp) game per mont.  If a market would actually fail, it could retract to another town or just to one market, conventionally.  Fail in Vegas or Portland?  Move to Louisville for the Kentucky Downs.  Once a week (every two weeks actually) fills the seats.



My favorite combo cities for football are mentioned in these:

Big League Expansion without increasing Number of Franchises. Definite No Doubts 

 I do it for many sports and towns throughout the blog.

I know, I know, but still no.  I see her true colors.

Not even to take one for the team.

A's and Rays can Leave, but MLB doesn't have to Leave those Cities.

Oakland and Tampa.

If you share the California Angels and Florida Marlins in those towns, baseball can expand without expanding to 32 teams.  It could just expand by 2 or 4 (or more) cities to 26 or about 28 cities full-time on a part-time basis.  Ditto for some Rangers action in Austin/San Antonio.  Ditto for the Mets or Yankees in Buffalo.

Think the West Coast Athletics in Portland and Las Vegas and the Rays doing something else, as in my previous post.

So, is it Charlotte or Nashville.  Why not both?

I'm sure I'm not the only one that has the guess I'm about to say.  Just check the galactic wide web:
And I mean, "new now".  So,....... like a Seattle again.

The next NBA expansion will be Louisville.  And Seattle.  Maybe it'll take awhile.  But yeah.
Is Las Vegas an argument in the west?  Will they put that arena in double-time mode?

What east?
You have some major league cities like St. Louis, Cincinnati and Pittsburgh without.
Westerly you have:  Mariners Country.  Padres Pais.

But doesn't West Coast Warriors have a ring to it?  I know the San Fran area could hold two teams alone.  But wouldn't it be nice for San Diego to have a share in the Golden State?  Selfish vanity of L.A. .  West Coast Clippers?  The name West Coast Warriors could split time in Las Vegas.  Even Boise bouncing for a stretch.

What about some unconvention?  What about an East Coast Flights team housed in Cincinnati as well as Pittsburgh.  Okay, maybe not them.  But, somebody...and Norfolk?  What with that newer arena in Kansas City?  A relationship like the KC-Omaha Kings again?

Which City in the West, if Montreal gets Expansion nod in the East?

In the east, your first thought might be Montreal and Charlotte.

Given population and television market, I'd go with Portland.  I wish Sacramento would split time with Anaheim for the California Angels rebirth.

I'm okay with the A's and Rays departing.  I'm all for the Florida Marlins part-timing in Tampa Saint Pete, and the Rays becoming something in Charlotte.  And then we can fight over the future of east baseball being in Indy, Louisville or Nashville sometime.

But what out west?
Portland, Vegas,....or even San Antonio in the west?
 Are fringe cities in mind for the somewhat distant future like Oklahoma City, Omaha, New Orleans or Salt Lake City?  Havana?  Plenty of these options have been discussed throughout the blog.

Can we do something unconventional like splitting the A's with Vegas?  San Diego-Monterrey Padres?  South Coast Rays in New Orleans.  East Coast Rays with Charlotte?

With market realities, like television revenue and stadium costs, can't we do something unconventional?

How do you feel about these Baseball Maps?

Are they fairly accurate or do you beg to differ?
I would think since the "Florida" Marlins won a couple Championships, Florida overall has a stronger affection for the first Fish.
I've heard New Orleans is more Astros turf.
Maryland looks a little weird on the second map.
For the top map, I think it's fair to say Wyoming is probably about some Rockies (only state without any pro ball at all) ball and Kansas feels for Kansas City.

Track and Field. A Major League in America. Post Collegiate

I believe there are two venues that could catapult America in terms of equality in the sexes.  I'll get to that.

Sport has worked wonders for race relations, at least in terms of attitude, save for some geographic or monetarily elite sports, arguably hockey, golf and car racing, ....and save for the amount of Whoopi Goldberg Rasta impressionists that adorn our one-percentage 70 plus percentage leagues.  The colosseum in our division culture is finally being aggravated amidst distractions from inequality, like legal gambling by banks and passive income abuses of the highest and lowest class.  But I digressed.  Sports is sports.  It's hard to argue production and contribution.

What about Volleyball and Track & Field?

The WNBA has success.  But the NBA had its anchors in place long before any agendas.  There are no super male leagues going on outside of the Olympics and college ball for volleyball and the olympics.  And that's not supercharged in all of our minds but for every four years.  So, to the point, I think the leagues can grow in viewership, equal-share.  There could even be a culmination of co-ed or equal-blending.

Grassroots is in place, especially for gals volleyball and track all across American high schools.
Track is an individual or relay sport.   Tennis can kind of be like that.

I've jibberjabbered about a growing sixth sport.  NASCAR.  or.  Lacrosse.   Would cricket be picked up in America outside of a few Indian transplants in some parks?

Maybe one day we will be a collectively unified culture more prone to beer races afoot and danceoffs at that bar than some UFC impersonations with beer bravery and gangsta gat blasts.  I don't know about you, but as an adult male adulting, I only go to the gym if I can think in terms of production for a sport.  I'll run, but I better see me getting fast or lift weights and get some bat speed.  A nice butt is nice but we are a production minded society.  I think.

I'm sorry I've only been doing sexy on the blog.  It's my blog and I want my eyeballs happy. We're all different.  Don't be spectators all of the time and watch people get fed to the lions and be told what you're seeing all the time.  Don't let others distract you from the bottom line all the time.
Don't jump on me about exploitation and showing sexy in the society where we gamble with head trauma in the very physical sense.
But anyway, I'd love more T&F viewership.  Club Cinci racing.

Likely not.
Or it'd be happening.  If there's money and business to be made..., well, you know.

Okay, geography nerds, here's a map.  Love wikipedia.
I know I know, this is a sixth sense or a sick sense in arguing the big five brands or sports, but it's competition.

Strictly in terms of distance, voids and density, what do you think?

See a pull between Cleveland and Pittsburgh for a spot to be had in rubberized Akron or Youngstown?
Charleston.
A pilgrimage at or near Denver or Cheyenne?  Salt Lake City?
What about Spokane or Eugene?
Or Santa Fe Express?
Some stimulus for Mississippi or Louisiana.

I can definitely see Walmart and Little Rock.
The Minni north of St. Paul.
What about Boise?  What about a blue track?
Some more inland empire?
Pensacola just has that locale and ring.
Columbus, Ohio has some intersecting highways.
Is St. Louis ready again with their gaping void of gatherings?
A lot in Canada

East Coast Brands in Norfolk

It can work at least part-time.

I've bloggblabbed about them before.

A great team can be based there.
First to mind is the old Hartford Whalers, but we'll split time between Connecticut and Virginia for the East Coast Whalers.

What about Baseball?  Um, well, 3's a crowd near the O's and Nats.  And Charlotte doesn't even sport MLB.  Some 300 miles between the Hampton Roads and Charlotte areas could be enough to bounce a team back and forth as a camp under the name of East Coast.  Could Jacksonville, even Buffalo, or a team two in Boston be part of it?  Puerto Rico?

Do I have a little ditto thought for the NFL?  Any more stretches like an Eastern brand with Louisville, or splitting up the Jacksonville franchise with Virginia's bay.

In MLS, I could see a Sea Legs team bouncing around Jacksonville (to oppose Orlando) or Miami to take for an East Coast themed brand.  Or what about a Bootleggers brand of Appalachian theme shared with Nashville and/or Charlotte-Raleigh?

But NBA and NHL seem the fit.  Who would the Norfolk area share time with in the NBA?

It's a good exercise for the mind.

Raider Chatter again for Sin City

Every time the Raider organization flaunts with a move, the thoughts of San Antonio and Las Vegas pop to mind.  And with my geography mind contortions, I can see something for Louisville, Oklahoma City, Portland or Austin in my lifetime.  But anyway.......Las Vegas:

And now that Nevada is to be hockey crazed butted up against another resort in Arizona, they're ready to go big or go home with more big leauges.  Not many more places better to have visitors pay, perhaps 'unnoticeably more, to chip in on tantalizing infrastructure to house another oasis of entertainment.  Another easy excuse for an easy road trip.

How to Compete Small Markets like Oakland up Against the likes of Giants... Screwing Things Up and Tossing them around...

Add Las Vegas to the Oakland market 

of northern Cali and call them the West Coast Athletics.

Now that's Athletic.

And by that, I mean, do something like split play time with the City of Sin as well.

Use this as an example and think of other city combos in which this scenario could work out.  As a second tier MLB market, and any sport for that matter, Las Vegas stacks up as the greatest of examples.  Why wouldn't an NHL West Coast franchise not be in Portland and/or Seattle tag teaming with Las Vegas, a city teeming with transports, visitors and excitement?  Major League fixation with resorts is going through growing pangs competing with weather and other outdoorsy entertainment stuff to do.  See MLB and other things in Florida.  Why not the Coyotes shared as a save with Seattle as a West Coast brand?  Why not the Southland Panthers or Fishermen for Atlanta and Miami?  Landing in Las Vegas isn't THAT bold.  Tag teaming is.  And it has a built-in insurance, competed for by tickets and butts in seats.  Sure, historically, the Kansas City-Omaha Kings wasn't a huge success in the NBA playing in 3 cities (also St. Louis), but they were onto something in the 1970s, especially fast forward to this day and age of apparel and television markets.  KC has that big and newer arena city there now.  Why not some Midland brand with another city in the NHL or NBA.  Midland Grizzlies as a share?

As another example on the east coast, think East Coast Whalers being reborn in Hartford and Hampton Roads.

I look at how small markets like "Cincinnati" have to compete in Baseball Land.  If we had a bigger baseball stadium, let's say for the Columbus Clippers (OR MAYBE JUST KEEP THE STADIUM THE SAME) and utilize it as a regular season embassy shared for the Indians and Reds for time to time and call it the Redlegs Embassy or Indians Embassy, a more invested and robust franchise following can be had.  Do it in Indianapolis.  Of course the Pirates claim triple A there now, ...so real world complications (legalities) indeed.

But is that going to stop you from spit-balling?  What are your ideas?

Screwing things up: The Royals Can be More than Kansas City

And it could be all done in just a brand name change.

Think:  the Kansas City Midland Royals.

But also imagine them part-timing (maybe even during regular season games) in Austin or Omaha and claiming that as their turf in play,...more than just on the tv set.  Or in some field of dreams or schemes in Iowa.  Sure, that would trounce on the likes of Cubs country and the good ol' Texas team, but what about lonely Nebraska(?).  Do Huskers care to root on MLB affiliates far away?  As of now, it's the Royals for them and Omaha is their big time affiliate.  Make them care more about Royals Nation Royals Country.

In those regular season MLB games in Omaha they could sport "O" hats or generically "R" hats, or just a ballcap with a king hat on it.  Imagine the blue jersey embossed as "Midland" or "Midland America" or "Heartland".

Stretch to the likes of Oklahoma City, Little Rock or even....New Orleans.

I know we're screwing with TV turf here with the whole riches of regional sports networks.  But toss these ideas out there.  Spitball the hell out of what we imagine as insurmountable.

Screwing things up: The Orioles CAN'T be just Baltimore ever more

And this city pops into mind because of its proximity to the Nationals now.  And I just enjoy scenarios.  What if?  What if you had to?

What if Baltimore had to share the Orioles?
I've harped on this notion of proximity to other teams with the Giants and A's being in the Bay.  And if you've read my posts and I've suggested something like the Athletics should also play in a home "camp" park in Las Vegas and rebrand themselves as the West Coast A's.  And yes, this notion would be a good thing, especially given the stadium situation, with Tampa.  I think the Marlins should split time there.

And so how would I do such a thing with Baltimore?
What if they shared the Orioles with Charlotte?  And what would they be called?  Could you think the East Coast Orioles?

Is Charlotte the only other thought option?  There's Buffalo, Atlantic City and Hartford I guess.  Maybe even Jacksonville.  There would be a bolder time in Puerto Rico.  Baltimore-Indiana Railroad Orioles?
